SMALLRIG RA-D55 Softbox, 55 cm

SMALLRIG RA-D55 55cm Softbox

The SmallRig RA-D55 Parabolic Softbox 3585 is a parabolic softbox with a diameter of 55 cm, designed to soften and evenly distribute light during photography and video recording. Thanks to its universal Bowens mount, the softbox can be paired with SmallRig RC 120D, RC 120B, RC 220D, and RC 220B lights, as well as compatible lights from other brands. The quick-mount system allows you to set up or fold the softbox in just 15 seconds, streamlining lighting setup. The kit also includes two diffusers and a honeycomb grid, allowing you to adjust the degree of light diffusion and the direction of the light to suit a specific scene.

Quick Setup and Convenient Operation

The RA-D55 utilizes a new-generation quick-release mechanism that simplifies the assembly and folding of the softbox. The design relies on a simple push-and-lift motion of the mechanism’s ribs, eliminating the need to manually assemble individual components. This solution allows for more efficient setup of the lighting rig, especially when working outdoors, on a film set, or in situations where the softbox needs to be folded and set up again frequently.

Durable construction and even light reflection

The softbox is made of durable Oxford fabric, and its interior is coated with a material that has a high light reflectance. This helps distribute light evenly inside the softbox while preserving the light source’s characteristics, including its color temperature and CRI. The structure is reinforced by 16 flexible ribs, which give the softbox a more regular, nearly circular shape and ensure adequate depth. The ribs are lightweight, heat-resistant, and capable of withstanding repeated folding; their external placement keeps the inner reflective surface smooth, ensuring they do not interfere with the reflective coating’s performance.

Two diffusers and a grid for greater control

The SmallRig RA-D55 is equipped with both an internal and an external diffuser, allowing you to adjust the softness of the light to suit the nature of the shot. The ability to use different diffuser configurations makes it easier to find a balance between stronger diffusion and greater light transmission. The included honeycomb grid limits the beam angle to approximately 45°, helping to direct the light more precisely onto the subject and limit its spill outside the selected area.

For Photography, Film, and Live Streaming

The RA-D55 softbox can be used for live streaming, vlogging, wedding photography, documentary films, advertising content, and photo shoots. The 55 cm diameter allows for soft light while maintaining a relatively compact overall design, which is useful both in the studio and for on-the-go work. The included carrying bag makes it easy to store and transport the softbox along with its accessories.
